Spider-Man Remastered gets a free full VR alpha. You swing with your own arms

SpidyVR puts Spider-Man Remastered in VR with physical web swinging and real punches. Free, Steam only, early alpha.

A free fan mod called SpidyVR now runs Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered in full VR. Ilya’s early public alpha is out, and yes, you swing with your own arms. It’s PC VR, and it needs the Steam version of the game. The Epic build is a different build.

Here’s what runs right now. Native stereo at your headset’s resolution, with 6DoF head and hands. Squeeze a grip to fire a web where you point, then swing. Pull the trigger to reel in. Pull sharply to zip. Webs hold on buildings, the ground, or open air.

A free hand’s trigger fires the game’s own web ball from your wrist. You can web a prop or a thug, yank it in, swing it, and let go to throw. Look down and Spider-Man’s body is there, with his arms following your controllers. A fast fist into a thug lands the game’s own hit. Menus and cutscenes sit on a virtual screen, and a VR settings panel lives inside the headset.

Setup is simple on paper. The one-click launcher checks your PC and starts VR. The author says it changes nothing in the game folder. You need a PC VR headset with an OpenXR runtime, and you’ll want about 19 GB of memory for programs (RAM plus page file). Ilya plays on a Quest 3 over Virtual Desktop. SteamVR and Quest Link should work, but they’re untested, so reports from those setups are useful.

It’s an alpha, so expect rough edges. If something breaks, the launcher saves a session report in its reports folder. Send that to the Discord and Ilya will dig in.

This is a fan project, not affiliated with Insomniac, Sony or Marvel.

Most flat-game VR so far has been about looking at the game. This one is about playing it with your hands, and that’s the part to watch. Whether the Steam-only limit holds, and whether SteamVR users can confirm it works, will decide how far this goes. The post doesn’t say how the mod hooks into the game, so the “changes nothing” line is the author’s word until someone digs into the launcher.
