Estacado Brings The Darkness (Xbox 360) to PC Through Static Recomp
A fan-made static recomp of The Darkness (Xbox 360, 2007) is in pre-release, and the author says it runs on Steam Deck under Proton Experimental.

A fan-made project called Estacado is in pre-release, and its author says it runs on Steam Deck under Proton Experimental. The target is The Darkness, the 2007 Xbox 360 game. This isn’t emulation. The game’s PowerPC code gets translated ahead of time into C++ and built as a native executable, using XenonRecomp and ReXGlue.
Why should a hobbyist care? Because the port is aiming at things the original never had. The posts list 60 FPS with high-refresh and uncapped options, higher internal resolutions, native keyboard and mouse, controller support, adjustable FOV, experimental ultrawide, graphics and post-processing options, and HD texture pack support. Those are the features people ask for on every old console port, and here they’re promised on top of a native build.
The catch is simple. You need your own legally dumped copy of the Xbox 360 version. No game files come with the project. The sources also name two GitHub addresses, https://github.com/invinceble55-wq/Estacado-The-Darkness-Recomp and https://github.com/invinceble55-wq/Estacado, and they don’t say which one is the main repo. Check the page before you download anything.
Everything here comes from the author’s own Reddit posts. Nobody independent has tested it in these sources, and the author admits there are bugs and areas that need more testing. Take the Steam Deck claim as a claim until someone reports back.
My take: static recomp is quickly becoming the real way to bring old Xbox 360 games to PC. It asks a lot of skill and time, and it still needs the original disc or dump, so nobody is handing out game files. Projects like this one, built on hedge-dev’s XenonRecomp, show that the toolchain is maturing. What I’ll watch is whether the bug list shrinks over the next few releases. Pre-release ports die quietly more often than they ship.
