Tony Hawk's Underground Arrives Natively on PS Vita via Agentic AI
Tony Hawk's Underground gets a native PS Vita port built with agentic AI, running at 60 fps with full features.
Developer grignylagrandeborn has released a native port of Tony Hawk’s Underground for the PlayStation Vita, featuring full Story mode, levels, Create-a-Skater, and soundtrack running at or near 60 fps. If you have a modded handheld collecting dust, this release turns it into a proper skate machine.
Unlike an emulator or wrapper, the engine was rebuilt for the console with its own graphics backend, capturing straight from the hardware. Controls are reworked so L and R handle nollie and switch, bottom corners of the touchscreen handle spins, and the rear touchpad stays untouched. FMV videos are skipped, but saves work normally. The creator built the port over several months using agentic AI and a custom harness that compiles the game, pushes it to a real Vita, plays it, reads logs, and fixes breaks autonomously. Polished against the original Xbox version, the project shows how far developer workflows have shifted.
To try it out:
- Get a hacked PS Vita.
- Set up libshacccg (ShaRKF00D sets this up).
- Grab the Xbox USA version of the game dumped from your own disc.
- Follow the step-by-step instructions and grab the VPK on the GitHub repository.
Projects like this used to take years of grueling reverse engineering by massive teams. Seeing a solo dev spin up an AI harness to tackle the Neversoft engine changes how we think about homebrew longevity. If digging into the engine unlocked this, expect more ports down the line.
