Mario Kart Wii Reportedly Running on 3DS, But Show Me the Build
A Bluesky post claims Mario Kart Wii runs on the Nintendo 3DS, o3DS included. No video, no repo, no build yet.

A Bluesky post from October 10, 2026 says someone has ported Mario Kart Wii to the Nintendo 3DS. The poster, credited as “GrumpySmokey”, claims the game runs at a “super smooth framerate” with few compromises, and that it works on the original o3DS too. If that’s true, it’s a big deal for every 3DS owner who’s wanted a Wii racer on a handheld. Right now it’s a claim, not a demo.
Why should a hobbyist care? A Wii-to-3DS move isn’t a settings tweak. The Wii runs on a PowerPC chip and the 3DS runs on an ARM one, so the two machines don’t share much at the hardware level. Dolphin has spent years on Wii and GameCube emulation, but it targets PCs, not handhelds. Any Wii game on a 3DS needs either a very clever emulator or a recompile-style approach. The post doesn’t say which one this is.
The post itself gives you almost nothing to check. It’s one Bluesky post with hashtags. No video, no screenshots, no repository, no build notes, no list of tested tracks. The only link is a Discord invite, discord.gg/3QYXRbTRZ. It doesn’t say whether you need your own copy of the Wii game, what hardware or firmware it needs, or how stable it is beyond the word “smooth”. Those are the questions that matter.
My take, and it’s opinion: I’ve watched too many “runs perfectly on a weak handheld” posts turn out to be a title screen and four seconds of a race. The scene has real handheld ports that impressed people, but they came with footage, source, and public arguments about them. Until I see a video of actual laps or a build I can poke at, I’m filing this under maybe. If it’s real, expect the Discord to fill up fast and the usual fights about dumps and legality to follow.
How to try it: there’s no download in the post. Join the Discord and ask. Keep your expectations low until someone posts proof.
